Just get to Jesus

Believers have ‘treasure’ of God deposited in them

Stepping out of our comfort zone to talk with someone about Jesus can be an almost overwhelming task for some.

Our lives in this world often have taught us that we are not worthy, that we don’t know enough about the Bible and Jesus, or that people don’t want to listen anymore. But as we’ve talked about before, the world is yearning for “something more.”

All believers are called to ministry in their slice of the world and every believer has “treasure” deposited into them upon accepting Christ as their savior. This treasure is the Holy Spirit.

And what a treasure He is for all believers!

When worried about what to say or how to act when connecting with someone, just remember that the treasure in you, that is the Holy Spirit, is more knowledgeable, helpful and comforting than we know. He amazes all those who trust him to guide them.

Joshua 1:9 (KJV) – “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

Trust in the Lord, let the Holy Spirit guide you, and those in the world who are ready will receive the message. Then, the Holy Spirit will work to convict them and draw them to Jesus in the best way possible.

Prov. 3:5-6 (KJV) – “5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

You have the voice of the living God in you, guiding you. He speaks with you personally, in spirit.

John 14:16 (KJV) – “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.”

Now, disciple, share the treasure in you that will guide you in all things.

3 Questions for now

If someone actually found that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow on St. Patrick’s Day, do you think they could keep their mouth shut about it? Oh, no. They would be ecstatic beyond belief and shout out to all in excitement.

How much more valuable is salvation through Jesus than a pot of gold or any other earthly treasure?

Let’s learn to let loose our tongues to shout the good news – or at least chat about Jesus – to all those in our sphere of this world.

Here are three questions that could help you start a conversation:

  1. How do you feel about the idea of salvation being a gift and not something we can earn?

  2. What do you think about the Christian concept of "eternal life"?

  3. If you could know for sure that God loved you unconditionally, how would that change the way you live?

Be kind. Love them. Be bold.

Let your treasure shine.

Shawn’s noodling rant:

(“Noodling” is a term I swiped from my mentor. The meaning is to “ponder” or “think deeply about” a topic that God is challenging us with through scripture or the Holy Spirit, or both.)

When in the moment, just get to Jesus

Sometimes I just want to yell at myself.

Why am I overthinking this? Why does it always seem so complicated when trying to talk to someone about Jesus? What’s the “opening” I’m looking for in the conversation so I can turn it to Jesus? Whey does something else always pop up just as I get up the nerve and I’m about to talk about Jesus?

We make things so much harder for ourselves, getting all twisted up inside about how “I’m” going to handle this situation.

The reality is, we’re never in control – or at least we shouldn’t try to be. Just let the situation or conversation develop and then at some point make that leap of faith.

Just get to Jesus.

Once you mention His name, it’s a guarantee the conversation will take a turn – good, bad or otherwise. In that moment, you’ll be acting in the Spirit and He can do wonders you may not understand until later.

There are many ways to “share your faith” with well-established diagrams and specific verses laid out in a series so you can memorize that road map and share with someone. All are great and if you know one then keep it up. All lead to sharing the Gospel.

I tend to go a little overboard with how I do anything, especially when it comes to writing or talking. I get excited and I’m all over the place. It’s the same with sharing.

So, I try to break things down in my own way, my own words, to keep things simple. Here’s something simple for you:

--- sin, Savior, salvation ---

Everybody sins, Jesus is the Savior, He is the only way to eternal salvation.

Romans 3:23 (KJV) – “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Acts 16:31 (KJV) – “And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

John 3:16 (KJV) – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Saying those words takes less than 30 seconds, and I guarantee the Holy Spirit will act once that conversation starts.

Now, disciple, when you get overwhelmed or you find yourself talking too much while wandering off on a tangent, you can simply pause for a moment.

Then, just get to Jesus.
